Importance of micro propagation over plant propagation.

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Vegetative propagation is the type of asexual reproduction that is generally observed in plants. There are two types of reproduction systems in plants namely the sexual reproduction and the second is the asexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction in plants takes place with the help of seed. Asexual reproduction in plants takes place with the help of roots, stems or leaves. There are different types of asexual or vegetative reproduction techniques like the grafting, air layering and cutting. Depending on the type of propagation, the type of species and the type of environmental situations the period of propagation changes. Micro propagation is the science and art of multiplication of the plants in vitro. There are many steps that are included in this process. They include stick plant care, explants selection and sterilization, media manipulation to obtain proliferation, rooting, acclimation and growing on of the liners. It is the practice of multiplying a stock plant rapidly that results in a large number of progeny plants. They make use of the modern plant tissue culture methods. The clones of these plants in tissue culture are produced under sterile conditions.

House plant propagation + prayer plant.

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

The realization that propagating plants in house is an easy task has led people to go for House plant propagation. There are two ways in which propagation of plant takes place namely the sexual and the asexual type of reproduction. Asexual reproduction is also called as vegetative propagation. The sexual type of propagation takes place with the help of seeds and spores. The asexual type of reproduction takes place with the help of using the part of the original plant such as the stem, Leaves and the roots. Generally the plants that are planted in the house are of the shrub types, or the tree types, or the herbaceous perennials or the trees. It is very difficult to grow such plants from the seed stage. Thus the propagation of such plants is done by vegetative means.

House Plant Propagation

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Usually, it is found that indoor gardeners like to propagate house plants. There may be a number of reasons for house plant propagation. It could be that the plants may grow very big and you may need to start again with them. When this happens, there are different House Plant Propagation techniques that can be made use of by you. House plant propagation methods may range from easy ones to difficult ones. The most effective method that you can find must be used for House Plant Propagation.

Grafting

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

This type of method in plant propagation is perhaps one of the toughest ones to carry out. In this method plant cells from two different plants are forced to fuse with one another. This is mostly used in plants that are grown commercially. This main idea is to have new plants that are genetic combinations of the two parent plants. One example of grafting is growing roses of various colors on the same plant.

Grafting: A method of Propagation

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Once the man acquired the basic skills of propagation of plants he began to experiment with it. Many methods are used for the propagation of plants. Grafting is one of the methods. The tools needed for the grafting are pots of roots stock, knife, tape, Cuttings and Labels. Once you have all these tools you are ready to do grafting and grow many interesting plants.

Grafting is a very popular method in propagation. Grafting is a method to connect the sap-flow of the rootstock to the scion. It is done mainly in three ways. They are Side Graft, Wedge Graft and Rind Graft.

The Process of Plant Propagation

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Plant propagation is a process that can take place in two different ways. Plant Propagation can occur either through an artificial process or through the natural process. The term Plant Propagation basically refers to the wide scale spread or circulation of plants in different places. Under this term is included sexual propagation as well as asexual propagation.

The method of plant propagation is used in order to distribute plants in a number of different places. Plant propagation can be sexual as well as asexual in nature. Depending upon the type of plant propagation, it can be done naturally or artificially. Sexual plant propagation results in the production of plants that may or may not be similar to the parent plant. On the other hand, asexual plant production results in the production of plants that are exactly like the main plant. Asexual plant propagation is a method of vegetative production. It is similar to cloning the plants. Hence, there is complete similarity between the new and the main plant.

Cutting System in Plant Propagation

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Rooting media system involves cuttings methods. In the rooting media, genetic material can be exchanged by two plants. A piece can be cut form the parental plant in order to regenerate another new plant. This system is known by Asexual Propagation. Cutting is one of the method of rooting media that involves in Asexual Method. Generally, herbaceous and woody plants are propagated by cutting method.

The Asexual Propagation is one of the best systems for maintaining species that can represent the particular species. In this method two plants exchange their genetic material to each other. The clones of the plants are categorizes into different groups of the plants. And the groups are belonged to one parental plant. But they are only propagated by asexually. The Delicious Apple and the Bartlett pear these are the well-known examples of the clones. They are asexually propagated. There are many methods involved in the Asexual Propagation system. The method includes, layering, grafting or drafting, and cuttings. They also includes many sub methods each system.

Out of these the vegetative propagation by use of cuttings is the cheapest and the convenient amongst all. There are various methods used for propagating cuttings. The most common among those are the Hydroponics and mist propagation. Hydroponics is generally used for small scale projects. Mist type of propagation is used generally when large quantities of rooting are to be developed. It is also used when rooting of a difficult species is to be carried out.

Automatic Misting Plant Propagation System

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

Automatic misting is a method that is used in order to control the supply of water to the cuttings and seedlings. The Automatic Misting Plant Propagation System is usually used along with a particular heating system. Due to this, the mixture that is used for propagation does not dry out completely. Automatic Misting is a process that requires water to be sprayed from time to time on the cuttings and seedlings. This should be done during regular periods of time. You can make use of a timer to maintain the regular supply of water. There is a sensor with which you can detect when the leaf has dried out.

Asexual Plant Propagation

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

When the production of plants takes place without any genetic material being involved in this process, it is called as the asexual plant propagation of plants. The plant that is born out of this process looks exactly like the parent plant. This kind of asexual plant propagation has been taking place since a very long time. There are various methods that are used in this process. Divisions, cuttings, grafting, tissue culture, layering and budding are some of these techniques.

Aloe Plant Propagation

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Plant propagation refers to the regeneration and increase in the number of plants. This could be done either sexually or asexually. Sexual propagation makes use of seeds whereas in asexual propagation there are no seeds involved. Instead there are various other methods that are used for asexual propagation of plants. Aloe is an herbaceous plant. Plants that are herbaceous remain soft all through their lifetime. A number of houseplants are herbaceous. Aloe is one of them. Spring is considered an ideal time for propagation of herbaceous plants like aloe. However, this does not mean that they cannot be propagated during other seasons.

Air layering

Monday, November 19th, 2007

In Air layering roots are forcibly grown on the stem of a plant, which already has a root system. Such plants have usually shed off the lower foliage. Generally ornamental plants like dieffenbachia, ornamental figs and croton. Some woody plants like magnolia, azalea, rose etc are also grown by this method.

Air layering- A method for Plant propagation

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

Air layering method to propagate the difficult to root plants was developed by the Chinese centuries ago. It requires excessive care and patience so air layering was used by the highly experienced plants-men. In Air layering propagation you have to wound the stem of the plant and then close the wound with moist sphagnum moss or some similar medium till the new roots develop from the wound.

Air layering method is not used for easy to root plants. Only ornamental plants such as dieffenbachia, figs, croton and others of an herbaceous nature this method is used.
