House Plant Propagation of Prayer Plants

Indoor gardeners love to propagate house plants. This could be because sometimes the plants grow large and, hence, need to be started again. The methods that are used for house plant propagation can be easy or difficult. There are different plants that can be propagated using plant propagation methods. Prayer plant is one such plant that can be used for plant propagation. The leaves of the prayer plant fold up when there is total darkness around. The method of undertaking vegetative propagation for the prayer plants is very easy. Plants propagate either sexually or asexually.

It has been found that it is impractical to produce house plants right from seeds. If they are grown from seeds then it takes a long time for the plant to grow. And the new plant that is created does not possess same characteristics as compared to the main plant. In case of vegetative reproduction, the new plant possesses exactly the same characteristics as the main plant. In a way the two plants turn out to be identical. This is because in vegetative reproduction the missing parts are regenerated. The plants that are produced may not necessarily possess equivalent abilities.

When plant propagation of prayer plant is undertaken, care should be taken that you start with strong plants. The tools that are used for cutting during the plant propagation should be clean and definitely razor-sharp. The medium that is used for rooting should be free from all kinds of diseases. The water holding capacity of this medium should be good. And the air spaces that are available ought to enable proper air circulation. During plant propagation the plant should be placed in bright light. The humidity level should be maintained at a high level. The leaves should be placed such that they do not come in contact with each other.

The medium in which the roots will grow should contain a large amount of moisture. But care should be taken that the medium does not become too wet. If the cuttings are placed in an enclosure then proper ventilation is required. The temperature of the rooting medium should be maintained from seventy-five to eighty degree Fahrenheit. In order to maintain a high level of humidity the temperature in the air should be maintained at a low level. When the new plants begin to grow after plant propagation they should be immediately transplanted into pots. In this way, plant propagation of prayer plant occurs.
