Importance of micro propagation over plant propagation.

Vegetative propagation is the type of asexual reproduction that is generally observed in plants. There are two types of reproduction systems in plants namely the sexual reproduction and the second is the asexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction in plants takes place with the help of seed. Asexual reproduction in plants takes place with the help of roots, stems or leaves. There are different types of asexual or vegetative reproduction techniques like the grafting, air layering and cutting. Depending on the type of propagation, the type of species and the type of environmental situations the period of propagation changes. Micro propagation is the science and art of multiplication of the plants in vitro. There are many steps that are included in this process. They include stick plant care, explants selection and sterilization, media manipulation to obtain proliferation, rooting, acclimation and growing on of the liners. It is the practice of multiplying a stock plant rapidly that results in a large number of progeny plants. They make use of the modern plant tissue culture methods. The clones of these plants in tissue culture are produced under sterile conditions.

The importance of micro propagation is much more over the traditional methods of propagation. This results in the production of exact copy of plant. The new individuals is produced similar to the mother plant in all respects except its genetics. They produce a good quality of flowers and fruits. The rate of growth of such plants is much higher than the normal propagation rate. This propagation technique involves growth of new individuals in the absence of seeds and spores. As these plants are grown in a sterile condition they are out of the way of transmitting any disease, pests or a pathogen. There are some plant species, which cannot germinate through the seedling stage. Instead it is easy for them to propagate by means of vegetative propagation. Some large trees or shrubs can grow only by means of vegetative propagation.

Micro propagation produces a large number of identical individuals having the same characteristic as that of the parent plant. Thus they are used on a large scale in forestry and floriculture. In case of plants there are a number of endangered species that are about to get extinct. In such cases micro propagation is the best option. This is because the propagation in this type is generally under controlled condition. All care is taken to strengthen the growth of such plants.

Thus micro propagation is a important aspect in plant propagation.
