Protocol for Plant Propagation Cuttings
Plant Propagation is a method by which the spread of plants occurs in different places. Plant propagation can be sexual as well as asexual. Cutting propagation is included under asexual propagation. Cuttings refer to a particular part of a plant. It could be the stem or the root or the leaf. These cuttings are used to create new plants. The new plants are created by the regeneration of the other organs. Plants multiply faster by using the cutting propagation method as compared to other methods of plant propagation. Even the time that is needed for a single plant to grow from the cutting is very less.
There is a specific protocol that needs to be followed when you undertake plant propagation using the cutting method. First and foremost, you need to form a group of three or four people. Try to get a cane of begonia or Dendrobium. Two long sections should be cut out of it. You should keep one practical bud with every section. You should apply water to the end portion of the cuttings. The end should then be dusted using charcoal. Activated charcoal has the ability to absorb organic molecules. The fungal growth gets restricted due to this. Due to this, vitamins get absorbed at the ends of the cuttings.
Make three groups of the cuttings. However, if no leaves appear on the cuttings then only two groups ought to be made. The cuttings can be given treatment of keiki paste. The paste should be applied to the cutting. The paste should be hardened after sometime. After this, the following experiment should be conducted. In the first treatment, leaves should be removed. In the second treatment, paste of keiki should be applied to the portion from where leaves have been removed. However, in the third treatment, there should be at least one whole leaf on one portion of the cutting.
Take a tray and divide it into different segments. The tray should contain some moss. Put the cuttings on the moss. If the cutting has some leaves then that particular side should not be placed on the tray. Put the tray inside a plastic bag. And put it on a heating mat at eighty degree Celsius. Provide lighting through fluorescent bulbs. Every week you should check the cuttings to see if shoots have developed. This is the protocol that needs to be followed during plant propagation using the cutting method.
