Plant propagation is a process that can take place in two different ways. Plant Propagation can occur either through an artificial process or through the natural process. The term Plant Propagation basically refers to the wide scale spread or circulation of plants in different places. Under this term is included sexual propagation as well as asexual propagation.

First, let us begin with sexual propagation. This involves the role of seeds. Reproduction, thus, will take place through the use of spores or seeds. It is only through the sexual reproduction that seeds can be produced. Generally, this stands true for all species. Owing to recombination of genetics, it may happen that the plants emerging from the seeds may possess completely different characteristics from the parent plant. There are some seeds that will germinate only when certain specific conditions are created for their germination. Cold treatment is one such condition that can be taken into consideration. There are even some seeds that need smoke or fire for the process of germination. Such seeds would include plants from Australia, America or Africa. Several trees require many numbers of years in order to reach a maturation age. These trees can produce seeds only after reaching the given maturation age. The acquisition of certain seeds can prove to be a very difficult task. In addition to that, there are some plants that do not undertake the production of seeds.

Secondly, let us look at the Asexual Propagation of seeds. Vegetative reproduction is another term that is often used in relation to it. Gardeners as well as horticulturists have benefited by this method of reproduction. Cloning of plants can be done using this. Grafting and tissue culture are among the methods used in Asexual Propagation. Material from a single parent plant is used in order to produce plants. Naturally, the plants that are produced are exactly the same as the particular parent. Leaves, roots, stems etc are the vegetative parts of a plant. These are used for vegetative reproduction. Therefore, the propagation that takes place through the use of asexual seeds is called as Asexual Propagation. Thus, these are the two methods that come under Plant Propagation.
